CCRTA Driver Receives Regional Katherine McClary Award

May 6, 2021

Hyannis, MA, May 6, 2021 –The Cape Cod RTA is proud to announce the Regional Katherine McClary award has been presented to driver Kevin Carey. The Katherine McClary Program is a program to recognize the finest bus and van operators at MV Transportation across the country. MV Transportation is the operating company that provides the service for the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority.  These operators are recognized for their primary focus on safety. Kevin was the 2021 First Quarter Recipient.

Not only does Kevin excel in all areas in the guidelines, but he exceeds expectations in regards to providing insights in route suggestions, safety suggestions, training concepts, passenger concerns and so much more. He’s always willing to assist his fellow drivers if they have a question in addition to training new drivers. He gets along with everyone and is respected by all. As Covid19 hit last year- he never shied away from work- He came in daily to complete his route as expected, and never once flinched at the need to provide transport to our community.

CCRTA Administrator Tom Cahir presented Kevin with the award and thanked him for his extraordinary dedication and commitment to the goals mentioned in this award. “Safety and character are the criteria used to recognize the recipient of this prestigious award. Kevin epitomizes both of those measures. In addition to the great driver and teacher he has been for us, he is also renowned for his prowess as one of the very best golfers in New England and beyond for many years. You can tell a lot about a person’s character on the golf course and for as long back as I can remember, hundreds of people have said to me, Kevin is an even better person than a golfer which is high praise indeed when looking at his long-standing domination on the golf course. All of us at CCRTA thank and congratulate Kevin for his exemplary contributions.”

Katherine McClary, (Katie), was tragically killed in a bus accident on September 11th, 2004.  The goal from this tragic death and accident is to have MV Transportation’s operators learn from this accident and continue driver safety programs and pedestrian safety.  The McClary family believes the Katherine McClary Operator of the Year Award program by MV Transportation is an extension of her life and where Katie was going.  From this tragic event MV Transportation wants all employees to know that Safety is # 1.
