ADA Paratransit
Who is eligible to use this service?
ADA paratransit service eligibility is granted on either an unconditional, conditional or temporary basis depending upon the rider’s needs and whether their disability is permanent or temporary. Eligibility is strictly limited to three categories of individuals:
Physical impairments that prevent a rider from using an accessible vehicle by themselves.
Any individual with a disability who is unable, as the result of a physical or mental impairment (including a vision impairment), and without the assistance of another individual (except the operator of a wheelchair lift or other boarding assistance device), to board, ride or disembark from any vehicle on the system which is readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities.
Impairments that make using transit hard to understand.
In addition to individuals with physical disabilities that prevent them from using the fixed route, this right is also granted to people with mental, cognitive, and visual impairments who cannot recognize destinations, understand bus transfers, or distinguish between different buses on different routes at terminals and/or while en route.
Passengers must be able to meet the driver at street level. The driver cannot move you or your mobility device up or down stairs.
It is important to understand that ADA eligibility does not replace the Access Pass on the fixed route buses or on the DART bus, but is an additional service available to those who qualify.
How To Apply
Individuals who feel that they are eligible for ADA service must complete an application. You can download the ADA Application and guidelines provided below. Alternate format, large print, Braille, etc. available upon request (508) 775-8504 x 200.
Once the completed application is submitted, CCRTA has up to twenty-one days to review and evaluate the application, make a determination of eligibility and send the applicant a written notice of eligibility. For those applicants found eligible the applicant will need to take their certification letter to the Hyannis Transportation Center in Hyannis, where they will be provided with a CCRTA Statewide Transit Access Photo ID which is universally accepted on all public transit systems in Massachusetts.
Eligibility is good for up to five years and then re-application is required to ensure uninterrupted service.
