How To Make A Public Records Request

All requests for public records must be submitted in writing. Please provide as much detail as you can to assist us in processing your request as expeditiously as possible. CCRTA will send an acknowledgement of receipt of your request which may include a good faith estimate of fees, if any, associated with assembling and reproducing the requested documents.

Public Records Law

The Massachusetts Public Records Law governs public access to government documents and records and can be found at Chapter 66, Section 10 of the Massachusetts General Law, subject to exemptions found at Chapter 4, Section 7(26) of the Massachusetts General Laws, and applicable law and policy.

As part of the Acts of 2016, Public Agencies and municipalities are required to designate a Records Access Officer (RAO). The RAO has a duty to:

  • Coordinate the agency’s response to requests for access to public records; and
  • Assist individuals seeking public records in identifying the records requested.
